LinguaLens ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a Chrome extension that helps language learners understand subtitles on Netflix and YouTube by providing vocabulary breakdowns, idiom explanations, cultural context, and contextual translations. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your Google profile name and email.
Subtitle text you analyze: When you request an explanation, translation, or cultural note, the subtitle text you highlight is sent to our backend for processing. We do not store this text permanently — it is used only to generate a response and is discarded immediately after.
Usage data: We track the number of analysis requests you make per day in order to enforce free-tier and subscription limits. This is stored as an anonymous count linked to your account.
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect your browsing history.
We do not record or store video content from Netflix or YouTube.
We do not collect payment information — payments are processed by Stripe and governed by their privacy policy.
We do not sell your data to third parties.
We do not use your data for advertising.
3. How We Use Your Information
To authenticate you and manage your account.
To process your subtitle analysis requests via the Anthropic Claude API.
To track and enforce daily usage limits based on your plan (free or paid).
To respond to support requests.
4. Third-Party Services
LinguaLens uses the following third-party services to operate:

Anthropic Claude API — Subtitle text is sent to Anthropic's API to generate language learning responses. Anthropic's data handling is governed by their Privacy Policy.
Supabase — Used for user authentication and storing account and usage data. Governed by Supabase's Privacy Policy.
Vercel — Our backend is hosted on Vercel. Governed by Vercel's Privacy Policy.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your account information and usage counts are stored securely in Supabase with row-level security (RLS) enabled, meaning your data is only accessible to you and our backend service. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We do not store subtitle content after a response is returned.

6. Data Retention
Your account data (email, usage count) is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us. Subtitle text submitted for analysis is not retained beyond the duration of the API request.

7. Children's Privacy
LinguaLens is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email below.

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of LinguaLens after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
